If you're confused and upset, the first rule is to spread it around
My word.
I just had a child make a very concerted effort to die. Twenty minutes of seizure that we couldn't stop. No IV access. No flipping veins, either.
Well, he's in ICU now! That's certainly one way to get a new bed.
Gnnn!
I then had the task of waking up my consultant and bringing him up to date with events. Whoever said that medicine didn't have it's moments?
A discovery of the day; the more worried I am in a medical situation, the calmer and more deliberate my voice gets. If you ever hear me say, "Could you please call a MET for me?", or "Would you be so kind as to get the crash trolley?", then you should get scared. The more so if I seem to be enunciating unusually clearly. When relaxed, I tend to joke around with a broad 'Straylian' accent.
My second new tidbit of information; did you know that horses can't vomit? I didn't.

Guh! I geuss the flipside of having to deal with people-about-to-die is you get to be the one who saves their life :)
Gak! And people ask why we don't want your job... It's out of your hands now at least.
oh shit. He's back on the ward again.
